2019 Ride for Cancer an Overwhelming Success!

Spectacular weather, great riding conditions and a lot of excitement greeted the participants of the 2019 Ride for Cancer.

Over 800 Riders, 210 volunteers, sponsors, and supporters came together and raised over $861,548 net for cancer care here at home, in Atlantic Canada.

Under the supervision of our tireless SMBARTA Board member, Rick Muzyk, our 32 km section of the 102 km ride was in great condition. $30,000 of Association funds was invested in Trail surface upgrades and repairs in early September.

Unfortunately hurricane Dorian set us back, spoiling much of the work we’d done and another $18,000 had to be spent to repair washouts, downed trees, culverts, etc. Many thanks to George Zinck, Mike Marriott, and Stonesage Contracting for their tireless work in the days leading up to the event.

Funds for this work were earned by our Trail volunteer participation in the Bay Treasure Chest – counting toonies, serving on the various committees and as Directors. Please consider pitching in some time and volunteering as this enables us to keep our Trail in good condition.
